Pauline Aitken, who runs relief centre from her garage, said the previous record was set exactly a week before when 92 people came by for help.
“Mondays are the busiest as it’s delivery day and we get the new order come in, usually we get around 80 people” she said.
Foodbank is open six days a week, taking Saturday afternoons and Sunday off before starting it all again on Monday.
Most of the people Pauline helps are out of work and struggling, and with so many people visiting the centre, it is a battle to have enough food available for the whole week.
Pauline started Foodbank 13 years ago after working with Community Living & Respite Services.
“They said `why don’t you just do it yourself?’ — and I thought, `why not?'
“We had 40 people in a week and thought that was wonderful,” she said.
The food comes from Bendigo and is paid for through donations to Foodbank.
It also receives donations from people in the community, such as extra produce from their gardens.
Pauline has been unwell for nearly a year but isn’t slowing down any time soon.
“It takes a lot of effort but it’s important to me,” she said.
“The report hasn’t got any worse, so why not keep going?”
Other church groups have various different programs such as lunches or community gardens, but the community church’s is the only dedicated food bank in town and it’s bearing a lot of the increase in demand.
