Mr Hosking was chosen from a field of three contenders at a preselection meeting in Kerang on Wednesday, April 22.
A fifth-generation farmer, Mr Hosking is a broad-acre cropping farmer from Quambatook, where he lives with his wife, Jane, and their four daughters.
Mr Hosking said it was a privilege to be selected as the Nationals’ candidate.
“To be selected as the Nationals’ candidate for Murray Plains, and to have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of retiring MP and local champion Peter Walsh, is a privilege,” he said.
“The Nationals are the only party that are 100 per cent focused on the future of Murray Plains, and regional Victoria. We have a plan to scrap taxes and ease cost of living, crack down on crime, strengthen health care and help get first-home buyers into their own home.”
“I will be fighting for every vote, and if elected, will fight every day for the people of Murray Plains to ensure they get their fair share.”
Nationals state president Jo Armstrong said Mr Hosking was a respected leader across regional Victoria and would be a strong advocate for Murray Plains.
“Brett has been Victorian Farmers Federation president since 2024, and has been in leadership roles with the VFF for more than a decade. He knows what it takes to be a strong voice for a community, and deliver outcomes that are needed,” she said.
“Brett cares about people, it’s as simple as that. He’s a man of high integrity, a farmer, a family man and a man that will fight for his community. The Nationals are proud to have Brett as our candidate for Murray Plains.”
