ORGANISERS have been forced to cancel the upcoming Echuca Moama Girls Night Out at Moama Bowling Club.
The raffle of a brand new Mazda CX5, however, will still go ahead.
“We’re touching base to send big, big love to our GNO sisterhood during this time of great uncertainty, fear and overwhelm,” a statement from the organisers said.
“The extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in are having a devastating impact on so many — emotionally, physically and financially.
“The GNO movement has always been about connecting and embracing the sisterhood of our community to shape a strong and vibrant network of women who are there for each other in times of need. And never has that need been greater than it is right now.
“But unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis we are unable to go ahead with our annual Girls Night Out event scheduled for May 31 at Junction Moama.
“And this puts us in a difficult position because we have a brand new $36,000 car to give away on that date.
“This beautiful Mazda CX5 is sitting proudly on display inside Moama Bowling Club, which sadly was forced to close its doors last week due to the pandemic restrictions.
“We’ve sold almost half of the 1000 raffle tickets available, which means we still have around 500 tickets left to sell over the next eight weeks.
“We are so acutely aware that this is an incredibly tough time financially for a lot of people, and the worst possible time ever to be asking anyone for money. It truly is the last thing we want to be doing right now.
“But we’re in a difficult situation, and no matter which way we look at it, we don’t have much choice. We can’t postpone the raffle, because under our permit conditions and requirements it must be drawn on May 31, 2020. And almost 500 people have already bought tickets.
“So gals, if you are financially able to, we ask for your support. It’s a reluctant request, and of course if you’re not in a position to do so, that is completely okay.
“This raffle will now be our only fundraiser for the Echuca Regional Health oncology department this year, and therefore our only chance of putting money into the Supportive Care bucket to support local cancer patients — whose private health battles unfortunately won’t stop, even though the world is spinning sideways.
“If you would like to purchase a $50 ticket in our mega car giveaway, please email us at [email protected], or send us a direct message on Facebook or Instagram.
“We will then provide you with direct debit details for the GNO bank account where you can make your deposit.
“Once your deposit has been received, we will text you a photo of your raffle ticket.
“The raffle will be drawn at 5.30pm on May 31, via live stream on our Facebook page.
“Our most heartfelt thanks to Moama Bowling Club and Echuca Mazda for gifting us this amazing prize and for their unbelievably generous support of our charity.
“Take care everyone, keep washing those hands, and please stay home with your loved ones.”
