Echuca Moama Shave is set to return bigger than ever, with organisers seeking volunteers and participants for the annual fundraiser that supports local families affected by cancer.

Committee member Hazel Voss said the event, scheduled for Sunday, June 22, at the Echuca Hotel from 11am, would feature volunteers having their hair shaved, cut or coloured, live music, expanded activities and more space for attendees.
“We will be able to accommodate a lot more people, opening up the car park at the Echuca Hotel,” she said.
“To make our event even bigger and better than the last couple of years, we are making it a bit more family inclusive, so we will have face painting, crazy hair stores and stuff for little kids.”
In the past two years, the event, which was held at the American Hotel, attracted up to 700 people, raising over $70,000, with the funds directly supporting local families affected by cancer.
“We help them out with things they can’t get other support for,” Hazel said.
“Things like transport, accommodation, food, and even money towards treatment, it depends on the person’s situation.”
Recipients are identified through suggestion boxes at the event and direct messages to organisers.
Currently, about 10 people have registered to donate their hair, and the committee members are happy for more volunteers who would like to help out with fundraising, assist on the day or get their hair shaved, cut or coloured.
Hazel shaved her head two years ago at the first Echuca Moama Shave and Maddie Fox did last year.
“Both of us were thinking we were just going to cut it and then got to the day and we’re like, ‘You know what? Just get rid of it all,’” Hazel said.
“You can see on our faces in the videos when we realise what we have done.

“It is honestly the best feeling that I’ve ever experienced.
“Maddie will say the exact same thing if you ask her.”
