After a tight tussle with the Billy Goats in the semi-final, the Loners came up against third seed Earth, Wind and Fire in the big dance.
The Loners side, made up of Hank Doller, Nathan Mackrell and Chris Hawking, who filled in for the absent Phil Higgins, got off to a strong start, taking the opening two games.
EWF number one Kevin Mao jagged a win back, with his side trailing 2-1 heading into the first doubles.
Mao and EWF number two Rob Russell had no answer for Doller and Hawking, being put to the sword in straight sets.
In the next round of singles, the Loners kept the good times rolling with Doller getting his second singles win for the night and Mackrell upsetting Russell to give his side a 5-1 advantage.
This lead meant that EWF would need to win every remaining game to take the Geoff Nesbitt trophy.
Ever the clutch player, Mao dominated Hawking on the eve of the second doubles to keep EWF alive.
In a see-sawing second doubles, the Loners got on top once more, coming back from two sets down to win in five (15-13, 5-11, 16-14, 11-8, 11-4) and take an unbeatable 6-2 lead to be crowned champions.
Following the grand final, the club will take a week’s break before the next hit-up on Wednesday, May 21, with the winter season commencing the week after.
