Travelling to Barrack Reserve at Heathcote, the Bombers got off to a rough start, settling for a behind in the opening quarter, while the host nailed 3.2 to get its day under way.
Not one to give up, Leitchville-Gunbower rebounded well in the second quarter, bagging three goals and behinds, respectively, to roar back into the contest.
Meanwhile, the Saints still scored a goal in a quieter second period, which left them with a slimmer six-point lead at the major break.
The Bombers let go of their momentum in the third term, slinking back to another goalless stretch, having to settle for four behinds.
Meanwhile, Heathcote found its spark once more and had its most productive attacking stretch, nailing six majors and a couple of behinds to create a 40-point lead with a quarter to go.
However, that wouldn’t be enough to take out L-G.
In yet another switch of momentum, the Bombers came out with a mission and set Barrack Reserve alight with a towering 7.5 stretch of attacking might to erase the 40-point difference.
The Saints could only find one more goal and behind each at the same time, with momentum proving to be the key factor in the contest.
When the siren sounded, nothing could separate the two sides, taking the air out of the roller-coaster contest.
The final score was L-G 10.13 (73) to Heathcote 11.7 (73).
It was an effort by committee for the Bombers with Blake Dye, Charles Hancock and Christopher Hancock kicking a pair of goals each.
Hancock was featured in L-G’s best alongside Jobee Warde, Bradley Green, Austin Windridge, Max Hagan and Jett Keam.
While a draw isn’t the optimal result for the Bombers, especially against the winless Saints, they will have ample opportunity to tally their second win for the season when they come up against Lockington-Bamawm United at home in round six.
