William was nominated for the 2025 7News Young Achiever Awards in the community service category, recognising his contributions volunteering at EMFM.
Spending most of his life in Kyabram, William now lives in Echuca, and heads into the EMFM studio about once a week.
“I am the digital music librarian,” he said.
“It’s kind of just my title that’s kind of stuck after all of these years.”
“I handle a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff. I do technical, library, sound, music, all of that jazz.”
William travelled down for the awards at the Pullman Melbourne on the Park on Friday, May 9, accompanied by his EMFM mentor John Vincent.
“Me and John had a wild adventure going to Melbourne,” William said.
“It was a lot of fun.
“John’s like my mentor and stuff, and he taught me everything I need to know at EMFM.”

The gala impressed William, enjoying a three-course dinner and award presentation, along with many photo opportunities.
He was able to look the part thanks to the custom-made suit he won as part of a competition run by InStitchu.
“The gala was cool... it was like this very fancy five-star hotel,” William said.
“It had a dress code, you need a suit and stuff (but) I don’t own a suit.
“There was this competition... ‘enter for your chance to win a custom tailored suit from one of our sponsors and free tickets’.
“I wasn’t expecting to win, but I won, so that was a fun experience.”
William was grateful to attend the awards, and felt proud of himself to be nominated.
“Nominees still got a cool certificate and stuff,” he said.
“Just being nominated is a still a big deal.”
In his role, William has prioritised making upgrades where he can for all the EMFM volunteers and listeners to enjoy.
Looking ahead, he has some exciting plans up his sleeve.
“I’m also planning on doing my own program at some point to be on air,” William said.
“That’s a while off, so that’s a sneak peek for anyone.
“I’m also working on small little projects to improve the station... trying to expand operations.
“We’re just doing our behind-the-scenes tech work that will improve EMFM for the community.”
