Kyabram’s bad run of games has continued into the back half of the season as the current wooden spooner was ousted by Shepparton Swans in round 10 of Goulburn Valley League netball.
Returning home from a road trip to Euroa, the Bombers kept up with the visiting Swans through the first quarter, with two goals the difference at quarter-time.
A three-goal effort through the second period stifled Kyabram’s progress, while the Bloods remained consistent, doubling their total by the major break.
An 11-goal performance in the third term brought the Bombers back into contention, but the Swans were well and truly rolling by that point, leading by 14 at the final turn.
Eight goals down the stretch wasn’t going to cut it for the win, particularly as the Swans closed out convincingly, finding the net a staggering 19 times to ice the game.
The shining light for the Bombers was wing defence Breanna Baker, who was awarded best-on-court for her side.
The 31-56 victory proved that Shepparton Swans may just cut the mustard for finals, while Kyabram moves on to round 11 with one win under its belt against Benalla in round three.
Luckily, the Bombers will have an ideal opportunity to reignite their season when they face a vulnerable Rochester in round 11.
