Lockington Bowls Club
With the fine weather and perfect conditions to suit, the Lockington greens and surrounds are looking a picture for the forthcoming 2025-26 Pennant season and associated Club Tournaments.
Members have enjoyed the respective Scrounge games played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
Last Wednesday, the scores were fairly even on most rinks, apart from a couple of blowouts.
On rink one, Club President John van den Bosch grabbed another win after scoring 55 points ahead of Poss Andrea 47.
Polly Cracker finished on 35 points. The biggest tally on the day belonged to John Andrea with a mammoth total of 67 points in a brilliant display of draw bowling.
Left in his wake were Ray Hanson 47 and Pat Duffy 36 points.
A foursome played on the final rink where Steve Peter was dominant to score a match winning 63 points from Denise Gilmore 30 followed by Bruce Haines 23 and Lorraine Appleby 18.
Saturday afternoon brought a combination of brilliant sunshine and quick greens.
On the number one rink, Steve Peter was again on fire to manage a fine 53 points, only to be equalled by Runnymede visitor Ashley Dobell on 53 points. The pair had to share the spoils.
John Andrea battled with the quicker green and did well to manage 33 points. The highs and lows of bowling.
Next door, another foursome did battle and the scoring was compact.
Rod Fiedler and Lorraine Appleby started well to pick up a couple of maximum nine points before succumbing to some alternative pressure from the three-time club champion Ray Hanson, who casually picked up ends at will to score a total of 43 points.
Both Appleby and Fiedler completed good games to manage 35 and 33 points respectively.
Frank Chugg had little luck in his tally of 28 points.
Once again, John Andrea provided the delicious party pies and sausage rolls.
Apparently it was only coincidental that as he served up the treat, the local fire siren was heard. The treat was a treat to eat.
The club will hold the first club tournament for the season on Sunday, September 14 with the Annual Memorial 2 bowl Triples tournament, commencing at 1pm.
