The Regional Tourism Network Industry Strengthening Program supports businesses to upskill, undergo training and grow their companies.
Murray Regional Tourism will share in the funding, with grants of up to $100,000 available from the state government for organisations that represent tourism in different regions.
Chief executive Cameron Sutton said MRT would use the funding for its successful free training workshops, which were most recently held late last year.
He said the workshops, which included AI training for tourism and hospitality, accommodation and revenue skills, and a resilience mindset program, had received great feedback.
Tourism Minister Steve Dimopoulos made the funding announcement on Monday, July 28.
“We’re backing local experts to deliver targeted support for local tourism operators and support the continued growth of Victoria’s world-class tourism,” he said.
“We continue investing in our tourism sector to give visitors unique experiences across the state and to ensure regional Victoria’s visitor economy continues to thrive.”
The program aims to continue growing the state’s $40 billion visitor economy, bolstering the significant role tourism and hospitality businesses play in the sector.
Data from Tourism Research Australia showed that, last year, there were over 56 million visitor trips to and within regional Victoria, injecting $16 billion into local economies.
