J Mary Masters (known as Judy) will host free author talks at Echuca library on Monday, October 20, at 10:30am and Kyabram library at 2pm the same day.
Masters, who transitioned from magazine publishing to fiction writing, has authored seven books over the past decade, including the much-loved Belleville family series, which opens in wartime Australia in 1942.
“I write to entertain women readers and especially women readers of a certain ‘maturity’,” Ms Masters said.
“The characters feel like friends to many readers, who become emotionally invested in the choices, good and bad, that they make.”
Her forthcoming novel, Winds of Change, the fifth instalment in the Belleville series, launches in November.
The narrative follows three siblings, Richard, William and Julia, as they navigate family secrets and betrayals in 1976.
“When I’m talking to a library audience, I like to talk about what inspired me to write my books,” Ms Masters said.
“I also want to inspire audience members who feel they too can write a book.”
Ms Masters is passionate about supporting local literature.
“I think we should be proud of our storytellers,” she said.
“I think too it’s great to read a book with a familiar setting not to mention a familiar way of life.”
Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase books and have them signed by the author following each talk.
All titles are also available in paperback and ebook formats via pmabooks.com.au
