The Victorian Government's Trade Apprentice Registration Discount scheme has put real money back in young workers' pockets, delivering over $59 million in savings on vehicle registration costs.
More than 22,000 apprentices and trainees have already taken advantage of this program, with each saving up to $930 every year by getting free car registrations.
This program specifically helps apprentices who rely on their cars to get to work sites, training venues and job locations ‒ especially those who need to transport tools or work unusual hours.
Minister for Skills and TAFE Colin Brooks said the initiative was all about making sure apprentices were focused on building skills instead of worrying about fees.
This support complements the state government’s broader vehicle registration rebate for eligible Victorian motorists.
Until July 31, vehicle owners can apply for a 20 per cent discount on their registration through the Service Victoria website or app.
The rebate covers 20 per cent of registration payments for 2025-26 and applies to Victorians who own light vehicles for personal use.
