Starting at noon, the event aims to build on last year’s success, which featured record-breaking performances.
Event organiser Anna Robinson said the competition had an inclusive approach.
“There is the open, seniors, intermediate and maybe women’s competition speed shearing,” she said.
“We do take under-18-year-olds, but they will need a parent or guardian to sign the form.”
Highlights will include the contractors’ relay and the popular trans-Tasman battle.
The Kiwis versus the Aussies competition will draw significant attention following New Zealand’s victory last year, its second straight win.
“The event has become a true community event, with everyone in town looking forward to it, more of a family fun day, with kids’ activities, food and raffles on the day,” Anna said.
“People come from all over to take part, we get travellers coming along from all over.”
In last year’s competition, Llyr Jones clocked a new record time of 21.90 seconds in the open event, beating Jamie Pakal’s previous mark of 24.37 seconds.
Other victors included West Poker in the seniors (34.33 seconds), Jodie Graham in the women’s round (48.65 seconds) and Jacob Patterson in the intermediate heat (39.29 seconds).
“It is a community event that has shearers turn up and enter a competition, a shearing competition,” Anna said.
“The prize money is not yet sorted, but the prize money has increased in the open events.”
Come along and cheer on the shearers at a fun, family-friendly day.
