The club will host its Keith Foreman Star Day on Sunday, January 18 to celebrate the life of a stalwart club member who died on July 16, 2025.
The event will be a tournament of any combination of fours, which will start at 12.30pm, with $800 in prizemoney up for grabs and $60 entry a team.
The event will serve as a way to raise money for Huntington’s Victoria as Keith’s wife Heather is currently in the late stages of the disease after being diagnosed in 2012.
There will be a raffle on the day, with money raised going to the organisation as a way to continue to advocate and raise awareness about Huntington’s disease in communities.
Huntington’s is a progressive, inherited neurological disorder that leads to the gradual breakdown of nerve cells in the brain, affecting movement, cognition and behaviour.
Before Keith became ill he would visit Heather most days, who is now completely dependent on her carers.
Keith’s daughter Nicole Gray said she was overwhelmed with the support from the Cohuna Bowls Club over the years.
“The club has named the Sunday tournament the Keith Foreman Star Day to honour him and, starting this year, it will be an annual tournament which is a pretty big honour,” she said.
“The bowls club have been wonderful, in the past they've held raffles and dress up blue events knowing that Heather has Huntington's disease.
“It's really lovely, even though he is no longer with us, that they’re still thinking of Dad and the things he loves.
“No matter what hospital he was at, the whole time the bowls club and their members would be supporting him and giving him cards, he had such great friends there.
“So that was really great that they all looked out for Dad when he was sick.”
Looking ahead to the event, Gray said she would be emotional on the day, but was thankful that the club would continue to honour her dad and what he stood for.
“I know on Sunday I'm going to really struggle to hold back the tears, because they've asked me to come and present the awards to the winners on the day,” she said.
“So, I'll go and do that and my sister is coming down from NSW, so she'll be there with me.
“I’m truly thankful for the club, they're quite amazing.”
