From Monday, February 16 to Friday, July 31, the thoroughfare, which connects the Murray Valley Hwy and Augustine St, will be closed to traffic.
The closure will allow for work on the $41.1 million facility being built at Cohuna District Hospital to progress.
Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said the street was important to residents living near the hospital, and to those visiting Cohuna Village.
He said construction company Fairbrother requested the closure, allowing it to continue upgrades to the facility which will meet residents’ “needs for many years to come”.
“Council thanks residents and visitors for their understanding and we look forward to when the redevelopment of the Cohuna District Hospital is complete,” Mr Rollinson said.
The facility’s major structural works were completed in August last year, according to the Victorian Health Building Authority.
When finished next year, 16 residential beds will become available within two ‘small households’, which promote social connection and enhance privacy.
Eight acute care beds will also be included at the new facility, giving residents easy access to integrated medical care.
In August, the VHBA said more than 150 workers had been involved in the project, while construction materials and services were being sourced locally where possible.
Traffic management and detours will be in place during Stewart St’s closure, with drivers able to access Augustine St via O’Briens Rd.
