The RDA organisation delivers horse riding programs for people with a disability and is supported by over 3000 volunteers across Australia.
RDA Echuca volunteer Megan Dehne said anyone could help out.
“We've got about 12 or 13 (volunteers) but it'd be great if we would get some more,” she said.
“We do all the training there ... We will train up anybody who is interested.
“There's always other jobs that can be done. So, you don't have to be a horse person to come and volunteer with us.”
The program aims to enhance participants’ quality of life, with riders joining for various reasons, including improving core strength, muscle management, learning a new skill or simply a new hobby.
With about 13 riders currently taking part, the association is hoping to recruit 10 or so additional helpers.
Volunteers can choose to help with ‘out of the arena’ jobs — maintenance, fundraising, and horse care — or supporting participants during sessions and working with the horses.
Ms Dhene said being a volunteer with the RDA was a rewarding experience.
“What I enjoy, at the end of the day, is seeing any of the riders progress in whatever passion that is and the smiles,” she said.
“When you can look at somebody’s face and go, ‘You are really loving this’ — it just gives you the feels.”
Sessions are usually held every third Saturday of each month at the Echuca Racecourse.
