I like playing golf, it can be a frustrating game at times but there is a thrill when you hit that prefect shot.
Unfortunately hitting that perfect shot is far and in-between all the bad shots I make.
To try and enjoy the game more a friend and I would allow a ‘mulligan’, a do-over shot, a second chance in a round.
This was if we teed off out of bounds or lost a ball in the rough.
Life can be very similar. We need a mulligan now and again, a do-over, a second chance to try again.
Yes, we can do that perfect shot that goes down the middle of the fairway and we can manage to putt in one stroke.
Hopefully this happens more often than not but life is hard and we are bound to make mistakes.
In keeping with this idea of second chances, we have just celebrated Easter ‒ in a way the greatest mulligan that has ever been given to us.
We celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection, for us, in Jesus, who quite literally took the strokes on our behalf ‒ not golf, but by what he suffered for us.
This is not just good news for us but great news.
If we ask Jesus to be our playing partner, not in golf but in life, we can have second, third, fourth and even fifth chances with him.
All we have to do is admit where we went wrong and try not to do it again.
I have been playing the game of life with Jesus for over 30 years and would recommend that you do the same, rake up that score card, write both your names on it.
The promise is, when the time comes, Christ can remove the penalties for us.
