The Deni side fell 4-1 to minor premiers Echuca-Moama Border Raiders.
Despite the scoreline, Wanderers goalkeeper Matt Crothers said the team had their fair share of opportunities.
“It was the story of our season,” he said.
“We had the first chance of the game which was a one-on-one with the keeper which was shanked wide.
“The team played very well, we were definitely in the game and had more chances throughout the game, we just couldn’t take our chances.

“It was nil-nil at half-time. Lungani (Nyembe) scored the goal, but it was 4-1 in the end.
“The final was played in a fairly nice and friendly way.”
Reflecting on the team’s efforts, Crothers said Sunday’s results showed how even the competition is.
“It’s been eight years since the club has been back into the league, and we’ve made finals six times.
“We have been competitive, and it is definitely positive (this season’s result) and hopefully the team go further into finals next year.
“It is a very close competition. Colts beat Swan Hill 4-3, and both matches could’ve gone either way.

“It will be very interesting to see what will happen with the league next year.”
Even with the Wanderers out of finals, there will still be Deniliquin player representation in the FV Greater Bendigo grand finals this weekend.
Roche Du Toit and Phoebe and Gabriella Crothers have featured in the Women’s League 2 competition this season.
They’ve played for the Echuca-Moama Border Raiders, as Deni do not have a women’s team in the competition.
The Raiders were minor premiers, and will play Swan Hill in the decider at Shepparton on Sunday from 11am.
