On Friday, September 18, 18 bowlers enjoyed bowling in beautiful conditions.
Teams consisted of triples, playing two games of eight ends.
There were two teams who won both of their games, with Francis Keech, Yvonne Smolenaars and David Burdett finishing with +14 shots.
The overall winning team, ‘The Triple Bs’ won with +18 shots – Bert Smolenaars, Beryl Elliott and Brenda Wilkin.
The jackpot went off with the winners being Francis, Yvonne and David. Congratulations to the winners who shared $117.
Bowlers wishing to play are reminded to ring the club 8.45–9.15am to enter their name.
Play will commence at 10am, with entrants asked to be in attendance by 9.45am ready for announcements and instructions.
$10 entry fee covers both play and jackpot draw.
Ladies match committee
The committee invites all lady bowlers to enter the Ladies Championship event.
Entries close on Sunday, September 27 and the first round to be played by Saturday, October 10.
If you can’t get into the club house to enter, contact a match committee member – Kathy Williams, Joan Limbrick, Bev Hetherington, Glenda Bancell or Roz Keech.
Pennant training
All bowlers playing pennant this season are invited to attend Pennant Training each Thursday – 10 am.

Pennant practice
The weekend selection committee have nominated Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, from 4pm as their pennant practice time.
60 and Over
This week, Rochester hosted the event with the winners being Ivan Hicks’ team from Echuca and in second place, Garry Solomon’s team from Kyabram.
This Wednesday, September 23, play will be at Mathoura with an 11am start.

Pennant practice match
On Saturday, September 19, the Rochester Bowls Club hosted White Hills Bowls Club in a practice pennant event.
It was an opportunity to have Elmore and Stanhope bowlers participate also.
The day was very successful and thanks go to everyone from the club who made a contribution – bowlers, selectors, kitchen and bar staff, BBQ chefs, raffle organisers, those who prepared the greens and those who assisted in the setting up and clearing up.
Pennant
The Campaspe Region weekend pennant competition commences on Saturday, October 3 and mid-week pennant competition – Tuesday, October 6.
Currently, the draw can be found on the Rochester Bowls Club Facebook site.
There is an ‘unavailable to play’ list for both competitions in the foyer.
If you are unable to play on any particular date, please enter your name on the applicable date.
Umpires
If you are at all keen to undertake your umpire’s accreditation, please contact Leigh Milgate.
The club will take the responsibility of payment for the course.

Lockington Bowls Club
Plenty of action on the greens during the past week with good numbers at the Tuesday Social bowls then the club practice match on Saturday.
On Tuesday, three rinks challenged for the social bowls in ideal conditions.
At the completion of the Scrounge event, the individual rink winners were - rink one to Pos Andrea 45 points ahead of Annette Brereton 30 followed by Lorraine Appleby 22 and Donna Hart on 20 points.
Next door Terrill Westwood was in supreme control to amass 49 points while Kathy Maddison tallied 32 points.
Pauline Humbert managed 25 points ahead of Mary Thomas who had 22 points.
On the final rink, John Andrea was in startling form to tally 47 points to take the chocolates from Denise Gilmore 42 and Margaret Dowie 34.
A pleasant day of bowls.
On Saturday, the club held a full-scale practice as an alternative to the cancelled match against Gunbower Bowling Club.
A fine roll up had three rinks in operation with close games on all rinks.
On rink one, the game went down to the wire where skipper Leanne McInnes led her team, consisting of Ashley Dobell, Jim Harris and Pos Andrea to a narrow one shot victory over the Dave Thomas skipped rink including John Andrea, Denise Gilmore and Ray Hanson with a 16-15 result.
Rink two produced another close two-shot victory 12-10 to Sharon Smith, Mary Thomas, Steve McKee and Owen Mc Phee (s) over Geoff Pilgrim, Allen Sharpe, Lorraine Appleby and Kalvin Stout (s).
The final rink was a fine display of bowling from all players.
The team of Mel Freeman, Leon Laffy, John Fisher and John van den Bosch (s) scraped home from the star-studded rink including Russell Shawcross, Clinton McKee, Shane Felmingham and skipper Phillip Cunnington in a 12-10 scoreline.
A group of players who missed the bus played a game of Scrounge and once again the scoring was close.
Neil Haines was the winner on 39 points while Rod Fiedler finished second with 33 points closely followed by father and son, Ian Haines 32 and Keifer Haines 30.
A really good workout.
The club will play another practice match on the Friday, September 25 grand final holiday with a 1pm start.
Selectors will select the teams when names are available.
There were no winning results from our members in the latest round of 60 and Over held at the Rochester Bowls Club on Wednesday.
One team lost the final game by one shot which really stung.
The local Campaspe Pennant season will commence on Saturday, October 3 (Weekend) while the Midweek Pennant will start on Tuesday, October 6.
The club will open the season on Friday, October 2 with Pennant practice followed by tea at 6.30pm.
Members are requested to bring a shared Casserole.
The club Champions will be invited to roll the first Kitty and deliver the first bowl.
All are welcome.
The club will hold the time honoured Waterwheel Classic Fours on Sunday, October 18, starting at 9.30pm.

Rochester Golf Club
Saturday's Men's golf was played in perfect golfing weather, and with the recently cut fairways and drier conditions, no wonder half the field broke their handicaps or played close to their best rounds for the season.
Low handicappers were to the fore, with Shane Bywaters posting a great score and winning the monthly medal 72-6 net 66, followed by new member Andrew Cassin with 74-7 (67).
Ball winners were Troy McInnes and Brendan McCarty, both on net (68), Robert Vise, Greg Watkins, Andy Purdy and David Gebbie, all on net 69.
Cassin was nearest to the pin on 3, David Harris (5), Bywaters (8), Brent Sweeney (16) and McInnes for his 2nd shot to the 18th hole.
Wednesday's 9-hole social golf was played on the front nine.
Last week's ball winner, Robert Vise, continued his great form by shooting a remarkable 27 Stableford points.
Vise put this down to his very generous "King Richards" handicapping system and just good luck.
Once again, David Gebbie thought his 23 points were enough to take home the chocolates; however, he wasn't accounting for Vise having such a great round.
Next best were Alex McQuibban and Peter Anderson with 21 points. Nearest-the-pin on the 3rd went to Mike Austin.
Friday, the ladies played stroke and count the putts.
Louise Eeles won with a net 71, followed by Barbara McCarty (72) on a countback from Jenny Major.
Major also won the putts with 27. Bree Cox won the 9-hole with 58-22-36 from Janet Sinclair.
Nearest-the-pin winners were Julie Leahy on 3 and 8 and McCarty on 12 and 16.
With the course in perfect condition, great golf and big crowds are expected next Friday for the annual MND Charity 4-person Ambrose event (any combination).
Assembly is at 10am. Members are requested to bring along a plate.
Lockington Golf Club
September 17 – Joy Bickford Rose Bowl Teams Event
Golfers enjoyed wonderful weather for the 2026 Bowl, contested by 10 teams, with eight clubs represented on the day – Axedale, Belvoir Park, Elmore, Marong, Neangar Park (2 teams), Rich River (2) and Rochester (2).
The Elmore team of Tanya Niven (41), Denise Pappin (40) and Sherryn Pedersen (35) combined brilliantly to score 116 points to win the Bowl with a massive 12-point margin over the runners up Rochester 2 (104), with Belvoir Park and Neangar Park 1 tied for 3rd on 100.
The Bowl was first competed in 1978 and this year’s victory was the 4th for Elmore, who last won it back in 2015.
Tanya was in that winning team, while this year’s win was the first for both Denise and Sherryn.
Leisa Evans (Rochester 2) won Division 1 with 39, ahead of Joan James (Belvoir Park) on 38 and Marcia Spiers (Rich River 1) was third with 36.
Division 2 was won by Jenny Major (Rochester 1) with 39, ahead of Maureen Fleiner (Neangar Park 1) who scored 38, with Di Mazzarella (Marong) third on 35.
Locky Ladies Event winner: Angela Bacon 38.

September 18 – 3 person Ambrose
Another terrific day’s weather was enjoyed by the 15 teams who played in this year’s Ambrose, generously sponsored by Echuca Mazda, Echuca Mitsubishi and Echuca MG.
It was great to have players from Rochester, Bamawm, Pyramid Hill, Mitiamo, Maldon, Valley View and Murray Downs, and the visitors certainly cleaned up on the day, taking home the bulk of the prizes.
Winners: the Pyramid Hill team of Andy Freemantle, Steve Gibson and Don Stewart 61-5-56 (their round was also the equal best scratch on the day).
Runners-up: the Mitiamo team of Dale Anderson, Robbie Lawry, Jamie Lister (Mitiamo) 67-9.67-57.33.
Third: Mitiamo players Brad Duncan and Rod Ellis, teamed up with Grant Humbert 63-5.17-57.83.
Ball comp: Rochester players Bruce Bryant and David Gebbie teamed up with Ray Brereton 67-8-59; and the sponsors team of Lachie Wilson, Matt Hoare and Todd Louttit (Bamawm) 63-3.67-59.33.

September 19 – Stroke
Money Day began with a beautiful fresh morning before a warmish afternoon, and it was one of those hitting off early, Kevin Humbert, who played some great golf to score 76-11-65 to win the Lockington Foodworks Player of the Day.
Andy Freemantle made it two profitable days of golf, finishing runner up with 84-16-68, while Terry Thomas (80-8-72) finished 3rd.
Next best was Grant Humbert (74-1-73 who was 4th, on a countback from Ian Maddison.
The Monthly Medallists Final was a close finish, with victory to Ian Maddison (86-13-73), by just one shot from Ron Dixon (95-21-74).
Nearest the pins: 7th – Kevin Humbert; 2nd shot 13th – Stuart Newton, Darren Carnie, Ron Dixon; 2nd shot 18th for the 6-pack smack – Kevin Humbert.
Spike’s Longest Drive on the 8th, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing – Ash Portwine, Ian Maddison, Ron Dixon.
Jason Wakefield won the Echuca Hip Pocket Eagles Nest on the 3rd with a super shot (and he got the birdie), but Captain Grant’s yardstick prize on the 16th wasn’t won.
Terry Thomas eagled the 2nd with three terrific shots, while JD Wright parred the 2nd for the 4th week in a row.
