In the grand final, held on Wednesday night, October 21, at the Moama Sporting Complex, Smashers and Sunsetters required all 11 matches to find a winner, but eventually it was Smashers, who came away with the Geoff Nesbit perpetual trophy 6-5.
Although they make up just two of the 11 matches, the doubles sets can often prove match deciders, and it was Smashers who won both to earn a title-winning edge.
Scores were locked at 5-all going into the second and deciding doubles, but Divya Crane and Lachlan Chugg battled back from a game down to win it, and the title, 3-1.
It sent Crane, Chugg and Aryan Dadwal to title glory, forcing Alastair Furness, Andrea Barry and substitute Raymond Kissell to settle for runners-up medals.
The club’s next competition will begin on Wednesday, November 4 and is expected to be a shorter format with teams of two, wrapping up before Christmas.
Interested players are encouraged to reach out to the club’s Facebook page, or attend the Moama Sporting Complex, corner of Echuca and Martin streets, Moama.
Doors open before 6.30pm, with play beginning at 7pm.
Runners-up, Sunsetters: Alastair Furness, Andrea Barry and substitute Raymond Kissell (absent Judy James).
