Zac won this year’s oustanding first year apprentice at GOTAFE — mainly because he’s already half-way through his second year of study after less than a year.
‘‘I’m not really after the awards, I’m just doing my job,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s good to be recognised, but I’m not one for accolades.’’
Finishing year 12 eight years ago, Zac was working spray-painting truck trailers before he was looking to branch out and find a bit of a challenge.
‘‘I decided to start work here (at Echuca Service Centre) and see how I liked the apprenticeship,’’ he said.
He soon found it’s vastly different to paintwork, and trade school in Echuca helped him with the change.
‘‘It was all relevant to work and helped me understand it.’’
GOTAFE trainer Geoff Beer said Zac had done some stellar work through his Certificate III.
‘‘He has really excelled in all of his first year units and as a tradesman myself, he’s definitely someone I’d employ,’’ he said.
‘‘He’s keen, dedicated and out of the dozen or so I’ve trained, he was outstanding.’’
