Stolen car set on fire near Echuca

A CAR was stolen from Echuca this morning and set alight at Stewart's Bridge Rd; the second vehicle fire in as many days.

Echuca Village and Echuca CFA brigades were called to the blaze about 7am after a resident called it in.

They spent 15 minutes putting out the fire, but the SUV was completely destroyed.

Sergeant Paul Gordon of Echuca police said the Mazda CX9 was stolen from a business in Hume St about 5am.

"It's still early days so we're trying to sort out exactly what's happened," he said.

He appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

"Anyone who may have seen the car in the early hours of this morning, we would encourage them to contact police," he said.

It comes after a Nissan Navara ute was set alight in Murrumbidgee Drive early yesterday.

People can contact police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
