Another one-off COVID-19 support payment of $750 to hit millions of bank accounts next week
PENSIONERS and carers are some of those who can expect to wake up soon to an extra $750 in their bank accounts.
And Echuca Moama Tourism chief executive Kathryn Mackenzie is pleading for people to spend it locally.
The $750 is a one-time cash gift from the Australian government to certain Centrelink receivers in an effort to ease stress on low income households during the COVID-19 pandemic and encourage spending.
“What I’m hearing right across the board is that people aren’t travelling right now,” Ms Mackenzie said.
“This is the best time to see your own backyard because no-one is out there.
“Definitely if you can drop into the visitor center, see what there is so to do – put your tourist hat on and enjoy what we have here.”
The $750 economic support payment will go to those on the aged pension, disability support pension, carer payment, wife and widow pension, bereavement allowance, family tax benefit, double orphan pension, carer allowance, senior health card holders and veterans.
Not eligible are those on the parenting payment, JobSeeker, ABSTUDY, Austudy, special benefit, and the farm household allowance, because these groups are already benefitting from an increased payment rate.
