Starring was Ricki Waters across the half forward line booting eight of the 26 Roos’ goals.
The Rovers put the pressure on early going into the quarter time break with a commanding 30 point lead, then an eight goal to two second quarter put the result beyond doubt.
The Bloods were left goalless in the third quarter, while the Roos continued to pile on the goals holding a 112 point three quarter time lead.
Although the Bloods were able to kick two goals in the last quarter, it didn’t hurt the Rovers’ chances of a big percentage boost as they kicked five goals. And it could have been more as Deni kicked six minor scores in the final term.
Final score, Deni Rovers 26.16 (172) d. Tocumwal 5.8 (38).
Coach Josh Bode said all players contributed to the win.
‘‘We played really well across half back with our zone and did that right to the end which is pleasing.
‘‘Tocumwal are unfortunately a struggling side and we were able to capitalise with our spread and run away from stoppages.
‘‘We were able to force the ball up the ground which is why many of our shots on goal were from about the 40 metre mark.
‘‘The May brothers (Dylan and Andrew) were excellent, Ricki was among the best on ground, Des Morgan and Dylan Kerr also had big games.’’
Bode said despite the huge win his side can’t get ahead of themselves going into next week’s clash against the undefeated Waaia.
‘‘There’s still plenty of improvement we need to start showing. I think we can improve, especially being more physical around stoppages.
‘‘Waaia are a great side around stoppages so we will need to match them in that area.
‘‘A few weeks ago we faced a big challenge against Rennie and failed; this week is an important test for the boys,’’ Bode said.
On Saturday, Waters was backed up well in the forward line with Allan Bond and Josh Flight both kicking three goals, while Raymond Murphy and Damian Hope each kicked two goals.
Former Rover Zak Thomson starred for the Bloods, listed among their best six players, while fellow Blood Keith Baron was the only multiple goal kicker with two on the day.
