It was a first – but it will certainly not the last!
Mathoura Football Netball Club held its inaugural 300 Fundraiser this year with 300 tickets available at $100 each.
A large crowd attended Sunday’s function when the competition was drawn.
They enjoyed a great meal, refreshments and entertainment by Georgina Bish.
The venture saw $9500 in prizes awarded on the day with Deni’s Steve Holloway claiming the major prize, taking home $5000.
Mathoura publican John Cavanagh won the $2000 second prize, while Alan Bugg claimed $1000 for third and Anne Robertson teamed with Janice Eddy to share $500 for fourth.
A further 10 prizes valued at $100 were also awarded during the afternoon.
The club was delighted with the success of its new venture and plans to make it an even bigger and better event next year.
Bowlers from many centres are expected to descend on Mathoura this weekend.
They will be in town to contest the Gulpa Creek Fours Tournament.
The annual event will be played tomorrow and Sunday and is sure to produce some high standard competition and will be well worth watching.
And with good prizemoney available, it will also be an event well worth winning.
Mathoura district seniors attending the Friendship Group have a treat in store next week when they receive a visit from students of the Mathoura Public School.
The youngsters will take a stroll down to the centre where they get to know older members of the community and entertain them with their musical talents.
They also join the seniors for the odd game of bingo, and it’s difficult to determine exactly who has the most fun during the afternoon.
The event has been a regular event on the calendars of both groups for many years.
Mathoura’s 18 young fourths footballers struck gold on the weekend.
Not only did they secure the four points, but they did it in style, getting home by six goals.
There was great merriment when the lads got to sing the song after the match.
Well done boys!
Have you found an outfit yet for the Mathoura Preschool Winter Wonderland Ball?
The event, on June 29, will be a great night out with entertainment, food and fun.
