James Thomson and Jayden Gulson have been selected in the Victorian men’s team who will be coached by Jayden’s father Michael, while Jorgie Wright will take the field for the Victorian women’s side.
Jayden has been named vice-captain of the team, as he prepares to participate at the event for the fifth time.
“Having a leadership position is always a nice feather in the cap,” Jayden said.
“I’ve been in the state system for several years which has allowed me to develop a strong knowledge of the game which I can share with my teammates.
“As a player you want to compete at the highest level possible and get the best out of yourself.
“The championships are continuing to get better every year, which has allowed me to continue growing as a player.”
Michael will take charge of team for the second time, after previous experience as an assistant coach and team manager.
And following a below par performance at last year’s championships, Michael is confident of finishing on the podium.
“I believe we’ve put together a stronger team this year,” he said.
“The team is much better prepared which has put us in a really strong position.
“While there is a lot of quality teams, I would be disappointed if our players didn’t have a medal around their necks at the end of the competition.”
