Since its inception, the supermarket has been owned and operated by the Waldron family, who continue to deliver on their commitment to provide the community with a wide selection of high quality and locally sourced food.
Store manager, Craig Waldron, said the family decided to shift the store name to Waldron’s Fresh on River because it better encapsulates the ethos of the supermarket which has long been a pillar of the Corowa community.
“This supermarket has always been independently owned and operated and we pride ourselves on the fresh meat and produce we source locally,” he said.
“The new name fits in with who we are as a business.”
In the lead up to the grand opening, the supermarket located on the corner of Riesling and River Street has undergone a thorough transformation, with upgrades and expansions implemented throughout the store.
“We’ve been working hard to ensure that we provide our community with an excellent supermarket,” Craig said.
“We’ve upgraded and expanded our produce and meat sections, added new freezers and fridges, expanded the bakery, added a café, and the liquor store is now larger and features a wide selection of craft beers.
“We’ve also made a shift towards sustainability with the installation of complete LED, energy efficient lighting.”
The supermarket has become a bustling hub of the town and now employs 80 people in the local community.
In addition, Craig said local sporting clubs, charities and community groups are important to the business and they’re always looking to support them through sponsorship or donations.
“Whether the local sporting clubs are losing or winning, we’re always there supporting them.
“We like to help out our community in any way we can.”
“Also with the success of the bottle shop we are proud to announce the promotion of Melissa Youings to Assistant Store Manager.”

Award winning supermarket
The inauguration of Waldron’s Fresh on River has started out by receiving some outstanding news, with the local supermarket being recognised as first-class in the state.
Qualifying as a Victorian supermarket, Waldron’s Fresh on River has been awarded Best IGA Liquor Store in Victoria and Best Regional Liquor Store in the state overall.
In addition, the supermarket has been anointed as Best Regional Meat in Victoria for the second year running.
Manager Craig Waldron said the awards are a testament to the many local farmers they source their meat from and also to the many upgrades that have been made throughout the store.
“We’re proud to be awarded as having the best meat in Victoria. We source our meat locally so I think it acknowledges the great stuff our local farmers are producing,” he said.
“We’re also glad to now be able to provide our customers with more of these great meats with our expansion of that section of the store.
“It’s also great for our bottle shop to be recognised for these awards after we’ve expanded our liquor store and stacked our fridges and selves with an extensive range of craft beer, wine and spirits.”
