Golf Australia has announced the Open will be played on Victorian courses in 2027, 2029 and 2030, with South Australia securing hosting rights for the championship in 2028 at the soon-to-be redeveloped North Adelaide course.
Located 55km from the CBD in Frankston on the Mornington Peninsular, Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club will be hosting its first major national tournament next year with the Victorian venues for the later editions still to be confirmed.
Already boasting two of the country's top 20 golf courses, the club will develop a composite course layout for the Australian Open.
This year's Open, which will again feature current world No.2 and six-time major champion Rory McIlroy, will be played at Kingston Health in December.
The northern Irishman caused a stir before the 2025 championship at Royal Melbourne when he said nearby Kingston Heath was the best course in the state.
Kingston Heath will also host the 2028 Presidents Cup.
NSW courses Royal Sydney, The Australian and The Lakes have been regular Australian Open venues, with the latter two joint-hosts most recently in 2023 when the men's and women's tournaments were played concurrently.
The first-ever Open was played at The Australian in Sydney back in 1904 but NSW courses have been overlooked in the near future.
Golf Australia CEO James Sutherland said Peninsula Kingswood was a strong addition to the schedule.
"Kingston Heath will provide another outstanding stage this year, and Peninsula Kingswood is a magnificent venue and a brilliant addition to the Australian Open story," Sutherland said in a statement.
"With two outstanding golf courses and the ability to create a composite championship layout, Peninsula Kingswood gives us the chance to present something new, exciting and worthy of our national Open."
