Captains Kadeyn Cox and Caitlyn Cartwright, along with vice-captains Rebecca Coney and Zavier Briggs, were chosen by their peers and college staff after an intense electoral process that involved an interview with the principal and the year 12 co-ordinator, an essay and a speech in front of the year 9 to 12 cohort.
Principal Paul Tozer said the college’s captains were expected to work together as a team and represent Kyabram P-12 College to the best of their ability.
“They’ve all got their individual talents but we’re just hoping they bring them together and work as a team,” he said.
“They’ve been chosen by their peers and chosen by their staff because they represent the values of the school.”
College captain Caitlyn Cartwright said one of her biggest priorities was to get more of the student cohort involved in maintaining the school’s high standard.
“I’d also like to work in the environmental side, like cleaning up the school and composting,” she said.
“I look forward to working with the values of our school.”
Mr Tozer said he and staff were confident Caitlyn, Kadeyn, Rebecca and Zavier would take that extra step and lead from the front.
“Our captains generally along the way have been strong in having their student voice and advocating themselves and their classmates and I know that’s one of the goals this year as well,” he said.
“What I’ve seen with student leaders over the last 10 years is that they tend to get better and better as they see what the group before them have done. I don’t think this group will be any different.”
