Echuca Cenotaph walls to come down

A structural engineer then assessed the walls and provided advice to rectify the problem.

“The engineer’s report confirms the brick walls are unstable, with poor foundations in place,” Mr Conway said.

“In discussion with the Echuca RSL Sub-branch the walls will be removed, the area cleaned-up and made tidy ready for Remembrance Day activities on November 11.”

As the cenotaph and memorial walls are the property of the Victoria RSL, council staff will await to be advised as to future plans for the site.

In the meantime, the brass plaques removed from the memorial walls will be securely stored.
