Tongala to host a musical about a spelling bee

IT'S not a spelling bee. It's a musical about a spelling bee — and there's only four more sleeps until Blackout Arts Company opens The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in Tongala.

Director Liz Dillon and musical director Chris McDonald have spent the past couple of months rehearsing with a cast of 11, featuring talent from Echuca-Moama, Kyabram, Shepparton and Bendigo.

The story follows a fictional spelling bee where six quirky children, played by adults, compete in the competition, run by three equally quirky grown-ups.

“This cast is simply incredible and I promise you a show you will not forget in a hurry,” Liz said.

“The audience must have a sense of humour and I hope they laugh a lot.

“It does have adult themes but we do leave it up to the discretion of parents whether or not to bring children (aged) 8-12. Under this (age it) is possibly not the right show.”

Two performances of the musical will be held at Tongala shire hall.

Opening night on Friday, February 21, offers a ticket option that includes a bus and drink on arrival. The bus leaves at 6.30pm sharp from Nish St carpark, Echuca.

There will be a 15-minute interval, with a snack and drink bar available.

A second performance will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 1.30 pm.

Tickets are on sale on trybooking.com or at the door.
