CAMPASPE Shire Council and ratepayers are left with an unnecessary repair bill after a spate of vandalism to toilets in town.
And forced the shire to close most facilities during nights to curb the antisocial behaviour.
Strict open and close times for all facilities except the visitor information centre and Port of Echuca facilities will now apply, with toilets closed from 7pm-7am.
Pictures of the vandalism were shared to Facebook with the community condemning the actions of the vandals, who also took toilet rolls out of the holders.
“People showing their true colours when they are affected by doomsday syndrome,” one comment on the post read.
“Really, some people need dealing with severely. Do you have CCTV in the area,” another questioned.
“I wonder what is going through people’s minds when they commit these ridiculous acts of theft and vandalism, they are probably laughing their butts off while they destroy public property,” a user commented.
Council had no additional comment but called for anyone in the community to report any suspicious activity around public facilities to police on 5483 1500 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
