Cohuna and Leitchville RSL Club members held a small ceremony at Memorial Park on Tuesday after the monument was completed last week.
It comes after the club received a $12,000 grant from the Victorian Government and support from Gannawarra Shire Council.
“We already have memorials for World War I and II and Vietnam but we decided we needed something to remember soldiers from smaller conflicts,” president Geoff Dale said.
The new marble structure is dedicated to locals who participated in the Boer and Korean wars, Malaysian and Afghanistan campaigns and peacekeeping operations in Iraq, Bougainville, East Timor and Solomon Islands.
‘‘We wanted to try to reveal it for Anzac Day but we didn’t have a ceremony this year,’’ Mr Dale said.
‘‘COVID (pandemic) also held us up a bit as we had to get the marble from overseas.’’
Cohuna builders McLoughlan Constructions put in the foundation, while Kelly Bros Monumental Masons from Swan Hill did the engraving and Cohuna’s Luke Reid Electrical installed the lights.
‘‘It lights up at night which looks really nice,’’ Mr Dale said.
‘‘We’re really happy with it and we think everyone else will be impressed.
‘‘We hope to have a formal ceremony on Remembrance Day for the general public to come along to.’’
