In the past two decades, Marcus has held several positions in the aquatic industry.
On Saturday, he was recognised for his work as Campaspe Shire Council’s aquatic operations team leader when he was named Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV) Public Training Service Member of the Year in an online ceremony.
In a statement, LSV said Marcus won the award “for embracing the opportunity to leverage his past experience, skills and qualifications to deliver the professional development strand at his facility in Echuca, with Watch Around Water training and in-service training being his focus".
“As part of his award presentation, Marcus was praised for his strong work ethic and passion to make his facility and the community safer, particularly in regional Victoria.”
Marcus said he was thrilled to have won the award.
“It is always nice to be recognised but I’m a little surprised I did win,” he said.
“I’m very lucky to work with a great group of people and they deserve a lot of credit for helping me to win this award.
“I couldn’t have done it without them.”
One of the key roles in Marcus’ work is to ensure all lifeguards and staff are up to date with all the latest training.
While it takes a lot of work, he embraces every moment in his job.
“There is a lot of stuff I do have to get my head around,” he said.
“But it’s important we do because we need to keep the people using our facilities safe. One of the best things we did was ensuring there were two lifeguards at pools in Campaspe Shire.
“It took a lot of commitment, but it has made for a much safer environment.”
