A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the 11.2m recreational houseboat moored on the Echuca side of the Murray River near Victoria Park remained partially submerged late Tuesday afternoon.
“NSW Maritime has contacted the owner of the vessel, who is insured, and is working to ensure there is no risk to safe navigation or the environment,” the spokesperson said.
“The owner has appointed a salvage company and it is anticipated the vessel will be re-floated in coming days at which time any damage will be assessed.
“It is the responsibility of vessel owners to maintain their vessels and moorings and to pay for any salvage efforts which may be required.”
NSW Police also attended the scene.
“Officers from Murray River Police District attended the Murray River at Moama about 11.30am on Sunday (August 9), after reports a houseboat was sinking,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
“Once the vessel is salvaged, further police investigation will be undertaken.”
