Leading Senior Constable Kris Sutton of Campaspe Highway Patrol said the man was driving a ute east along Goulburn Rd when it ran off the road and collided with a power pole about 11.25 pm.
“The collision has caused significant damage to a power pole and the vehicle,” he said.
“The man was trapped in the car and unable to get out.
“It took the SES about 60 minutes to get him out using the Jaws of Life.”
The Echuca man suffered upper body injuries and was flown to The Alfred hospital by air ambulance in a stable condition.
“Police are continuing their investigation to the cause of the collision,” Leading Sen Constable Sutton said.
The crash caused a power outage, with 2483 customers affected.
A Powercor spokesperson said power was progressively restored throughout the night as crews worked as safely and quickly as possible to make repairs.
“While most customers were restored overnight, the final five customers had power restored at 10.48 am Wednesday,” he said.
“Customers were kept updated on restoration times by text message and by updates on powercor.com.au"
