And now, artists, curators and creative researchers have a chance to immerse themselves in the region through the new Campaspe Artists in Residence program.
When the program begins in February next year, it will offer artists a residency fee of up to $5000, access to and support from partner venues, promotion and an opportunity to focus on their work while exploring the region.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell said it was an exciting way to support creatives while fostering connections between artists and the shire’s communities.
"CAIR will provide artists with the time and space to develop their practice while drawing inspiration from the people, places and stories that make our region unique," he said.
"We are excited to encourage creative practitioners from a wide range of disciplines to apply for this program, and to see the new ideas, collaborations and creative outcomes that emerge."
Recognising the contributions First Nations artists make to the shire’s cultural life, council has chosen to reserve one of the program’s slots for a First Nations artist.
Applications are now open and will close on October 30, with priority given to those with well-developed, achievable residency proposals, and connections to the area.
