Arsonist lights fire in Echuca house

AN ARSONIST is believed to have lit a small fire in a vacant house in Echuca.

Echuca CFA were called to the derelict house in Hare St, near Ogilvie Ave, about 5.10pm.

Captain Rob Amos said someone had set fire to a small section of carpet in the lounge room.

"There are smoke detectors inside so I think that's what's set it off, so someone's heard them and called us which is good," he said.

"By the time we got there the fire was out so I think a passerby has put something on it.

"We'll advise police there's been a fire that someone's lit."

Police are investigating.
