Police pause to remember the fallen

September 29 marked National Police Remembrance Day, which is an opportunity to remember police employees who have lost their lives.

Officers from both sides of the border came together at the Echuca-Moama checkpoint to commemorate their fallen mates.

Traffic was stopped for a short time as officers stood for a moment of silence.

Murray River Police District western sectors’ inspector Paul Huggett said it was one of the most important days of the year for officers.

“No matter where you are in the world, we’re all part of the police family,” he said.

“We use the day as an opportunity to reflect on those who are no longer with us and it is important we do that.

“But I also look at it as a way of thinking of those who lose their career to injury, both physically and mentally.

“Thank you to everyone in the community who was involved in some way.”
