With Echuca schools resuming this week, traffic leading to the Victorian border checkpoint has been backed up past Perricoota Rd, Moama, causing significant delays.
Murray River Police District rivers cluster Inspector Paul Huggett said Moama's Shaw St would be opened up between 8-9 am and 3-4 pm from Monday, February 1, for school buses only.
‘‘School buses can come onto the bridge and will be given priority access to get the students to school on time,’’ he said.
‘‘After a call from the community to do something, we have been working with Transport NSW to get our traffic management plan upgraded.
‘‘We know it’s a rat race trying to get kids to school so this is the only way we, as traffic management, can assist kids to get to school with minimal delay.’’
Insp Huggett said other vehicles carrying students would not be given priority access.
‘‘Any parents driving their kids to school, motorcycles, bikes or non-school buses who come through Shaw St will be turned away,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s only for school buses.’’
