Celebrate creativity, culture at festival launch

Volunteer committee members are hosting a public meeting for anyone interested in learning more about this exciting inaugural festival to be held from October 16 to 18 and will celebrate creativity and culture in our community.

The Festival of Stories will provide a platform to amplify local voices alongside some of Australia’s leading storytellers, artists, musicians, performers, thinkers and creatives.

The impressive line-up of program talent will also be revealed at the official launch event on Friday.

‘’Across regional Australia, the event landscape is changing,’’ festival committee chair Christy O’Brien said.

‘’Many much-loved community events have become harder to sustain, while others are being scaled back, outsourced or are disappearing altogether.

‘’Our region is feeling this too with the recent pause on some of our town’s most historically significant events (Southern 80, steam rally).

‘’But our festival committee see this moment as an opportunity ... an opportunity to create something new. Something lasting. Something locally-led. Something our community can proudly call its own.’’

More than an event, Festival of Stories is an investment in community connection, creativity, culture and regional identity.

It is being built by people who care deeply about this region — its people, its stories, its creativity and its future.

According to organisers, it is a festival being shaped by the community, for the community.

Mrs O’Brien said with the right support from the extended community, the festival had the potential to grow into a signature regional event that would attract visitors from across the country, strengthen local business, create opportunities for creatives and young people, and bring people together through shared experiences and storytelling.
