This long weekend, our community is getting together to FightMND with a few Big Freeze events.
Mathoura Football Netball Club
Mathoura Football Netball Club will host a FightMND event on Sunday, June 7, at Mathoura Recreation Reserve from 1pm to 4pm.
The event will feature a bar, barbecue, jumping castle and fake tattoos for the kids, lucky number boards, meat tray raffle and many more activities.
Mathoura president Blake Keech said the decision to hold the fundraiser became personal for the club.
“The league sent us a thing that if you have an MND event, you can win tickets, and as a club, we were like, ‘Nah, we won't do that’,” he said.
“Then in the meantime, one of our committee members flew up to the Gold Coast, where he used to live, to go to one friend's funeral who had died of MND.
“Then the next week, he went to one of his best mates' fundraisers who had just been diagnosed with MND, so he had been affected twice by it during the week.”
The club is organising a dunk tank as the main attraction.
“We have put out some nomination forms, but we are unsure who is actually going in the dunk tank at the moment,” Mr Keech said.
“I'm going to try and get at least one player from each senior team and then a couple of committee members would be great.”
All proceeds will go to FightMND, with merchandise also available for purchase.

Echuca Moama Big Freeze will be on at Rich River Golf Club, Twenty Four Lane, Moama, on Monday, June 8 with all the action starting from 11.30am.
