Established in 2020, the community-based club has grown from a small local group into a thriving organisation, with both Junior Under 13 and Masters Over 30 teams competing at state level competitions across Victoria.
DrillDance is a modern evolution of traditional marching, combining precision, athleticism, teamwork and creative performance.
Teams perform synchronised routines that blend technical drill movements with music, choreography and entertainment.
Club president Angela Coatsworth said the upcoming event would be a major milestone for the club and the wider region.
“We started as a really small club back in 2020 and have grown over the years into something we are incredibly proud of,” she said.
“This competition is a lead-in to the state titles in Geelong and then the Australian championships on the Gold Coast later in August, so it is an important event on the Victorian DrillDance calendar.”
The 2026 season has already delivered impressive success for Thunder DrillDance Echuca, particularly for the Masters team, which has won gold medals in both performances at the first two competitions of the season, including the recent event in Broadford.
Meanwhile, the club’s junior development squad has also impressed in its first competitive season.
“Our Under 13 team is in its first year, but they are doing an amazing job and have placed at both competitions so far,” Angela said.
The July event will also mark the first time competitors perform on stage at the Paramount, adding another exciting element to the competition.
Around 100 competitors from across Victoria are expected to attend, while approximately 200 to 250 visitors, including families, officials and supporters, are expected to travel to Echuca-Moama for the event.
Audiences can expect a full day of technical drill routines, creative displays and high-energy performances showcasing the precision and artistry of DrillDance.
Angela said hosting the competition locally would provide significant benefits for the region.
“Events like this bring people into town and support local accommodation, cafes, restaurants and businesses, while also creating community connection and showcasing regional sport,” she said.
The club has also received strong support from local sponsors and the wider community, although additional sponsorship opportunities remain available.
Thunder DrillDance Echuca is encouraging locals to attend and support the participants.
“Come along and support local athletes doing something truly unique,” Angela said.
The Victorian DrillDance competition will be held at the Paramount in Echuca on Saturday, July 18.
