After two years of waiting, Kyabram RSL Hall houses a defibrillator.
Kyabram Ambulance Auxiliary donated a defibrillator to the Kyabram RSL, assisted by a $1000 donation from RSL member Ern Tonkin.
Mr Tonkin, 91, donated the money to the auxiliary in appreciation of the paramedics who saved his life after he suffered a heart attack.
‘‘I don’t spend much myself and if it saves someone’s life, it’d be terrific,’’ he said.

Wombat plays 250th
A true sense of loyalty resulted in a Lancaster player celebrating his 250th game with the club’s reserves side on the weekend.
Ross Laurenson was 17 when he started playing for the team and has taken little time off, except for a couple of two-week stints out with hamstring injuries.
‘‘My commitment has been 100 per cent,’’ he said.
Laurenson, 34, said he was pleased he had been able to support the team through its high and lows, including its 2007 premiership win.

Sam, 7, bowls ‘em over
It is something of an understatement to say young Sam Nelson has injected a bit of youthful enthusiasm into the Triers carpet bowls team this season.
The side plays in the Kyabram Carpet Bowls Association and Sam, who is just seven years old, is one of the members of the team which is sitting on top of the ladder and unbeaten after four rounds.
Sam can give one of his teammates ― local carpet bowls legend Joe Waite ― 62 years in age.
And according to Joe there probably hasn’t been a younger player in the association’s long history ― it started back in 1941 ― to have played in the local competition.

Park’s newest arrival
Kyabram Fauna Park has some new inhabitants ― two new Pygmy Mulga Monitors (goannas).
The monitor is one of four species which grows only to 40cm in the reptile clan and the Kyabram Fauna Park is the only place outside of Melbourne Zoo that will have them on display.
The monitors were bred in Melbourne and hatched in April and October last year, coming from the same mother and father.
Park Manager Ron Pope said at this stage it was hard to determine the gender of the tiny goannas.
He said they were a very unusual species and are rarely seen in captivity.

Mick picked
Tongala’s Mick Souter has won selection in the Victorian team to contest the Teal (under-17) Interstate Football Series at Wagga this weekend.
Souter was one of the stars for the Country All-Stars side which thrashed the State Metropolitan team at Coburg last Sunday in the final try-out before the carnival.
Souter booted four goals in last Sunday’s game to continue his outstanding form during the series and was named second best player for the All-Stars side.
Other GVL players who made the Victorian side are Shepparton’s Greg McPherson who was named as captain, Rochester’s Steve Kauffman and Strathmerton’s Chris Bell.
