Earlier this month, Nolan competed at the Victorian Deaf Lawn Bowls Championships for the first time, challenging himself against some of the best players the state has to offer.
While he was there to compete for the trophy, getting to know new people made the competition even more rewarding.
‘‘Going to the tournament was all about getting more involved in the deaf community,’’ Nolan said.
‘‘You wanted to win just as much as you wanted to have a bit of fun.
‘‘In future, I definitely want to go back and compete again.’’
Across the two-day event, Nolan competed in singles and pairs competitions.
The pairs competition was where he enjoyed the most success, finishing as runner-up alongside Michael Barca from the Bundoora RSL.
Barca and Nolan progressed to the final after claiming two wins and a draw during a round-robin format.
They fell narrowly short of winning the competition against Paul Williams and Wayne Page, going down by just two shots.
“I didn’t know what to expect so I’m happy with how I went,’’ Nolan explained. ‘‘It was great to achieve some success.’’
On the singles front, bowlers were spilt into two sections of three bowlers.
Nolan narrowly missed out on progression from his section, after finishing one shot behind Williams.
