The comprehensive review will include input from the community and stakeholders and will examine current use and how future services might need to change.
The announcement has followed repeated calls from the community for Greater Shepparton to have a review similar to that which other regional centres have already received.
In 2021, the state government announced Victoria’s Bus Plan, which has delivered an extra 16,000 services across the state.
The extra services include new school bus routes to support Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
Across 2025 and 2026, bus network reviews were conducted in Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo.
In August, state Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell called for Shepparton to receive its own review, which has become especially important since the new train services began operating on August 23.
Greater Shepparton City Council and advocacy organisation Committee for Greater Shepparton both listed a bus network review as key priorities for the state election in November.
The review has been funded by the government and will not depend on the result of the election.
“We recognise the importance of public transport to the people of Greater Shepparton and Mooroopna, which is why we’ve singled it out as an area for review,” Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
Labor candidate for Shepparton Cayla Fin said she was delighted by the commitment.
“In Shepparton, Mooroopna and Tatura, plenty of people don’t drive or can’t afford to,” Ms Fin said.
“They still need to get to work, to TAFE or uni, to the doctor, or to footy training,” she said.
“A good bus service saves people money.
“That matters when everything else is getting more expensive.”
