The honour roll will recognise armed service veterans who were born in the Echuca-Moama region and served in conflicts across all theatres of war.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell said the updated honour roll would be a tribute to those who had served their country during conflicts.
“The honour roll is a lasting record of the local men and women who have served in our defence forces,” he said.
As part of the project, council is calling on the community to help ensure the honour roll is complete by nominating eligible Echuca-Moama-born veterans who served in the Boer War (1899-1902), World War I (1914-1918), World War II (1939-1945), Korean War (1950-1953), Vietnam War (1962-1973), Gulf War (1990-1991) - naval forces, East Timor (1999-2003; 2006-2013), Afghanistan (2001-2021), Iraq (2003-2009; 2014-2021) and Syria (2014-2021) - Royal Australian Air Force.
While names from World War I through to the Vietnam War have been previously documented and displayed on now-redundant copper honour roll plaques, council recognises that some names may be missing.
Community members and families are encouraged to advise council of any omissions by submitting a nomination.
Cr Mackrell said through the honour roll, the community honoured veterans’ commitment to defending our freedoms and values — often at great personal cost.
“If you know someone who fits the eligibility criteria for inclusion on the honour roll, please let us know,” he said.
To be eligible for inclusion, veterans must have been born in Echuca or Moama; have served in the Australian armed forces with acknowledged service in at least one of the listed conflicts; and not be recognised on another honour roll or memorial for the same service in another town, city or locality.
Nominations close on July 31, and can be made by collecting a hard copy form from any of council’s customer service centres or visiting the ‘Now Open’ page on council’s website.
