Landholders are encouraged to be vigilant for Australian plague locusts this spring.

After favourable conditions for locust breeding in autumn resulted in above-average baseline activity in our region, Murray Local Land Services is warning there is an increased potential of nymphs hatching in September and throughout spring as the weather warms up.
“Monitoring for activity and reporting any sightings is crucial to help reduce the risk of increased locust activity, as well as potential impacts to vegetation, pastures and crops which can have devastating economic impacts to landholders and communities,” the organisation said.
“Landholders have an obligation to report Australian plague locust sightings or activity to Local Land Services, which can be done by calling 1300 795 299.
“Our biosecurity officers can also provide practical on-ground advice, help identify locusts, explain their behaviour and guide landholders on appropriate management options.”
