Naked man trapped on Echuca roof to stay behind bars

A MAN who was arrested in Echuca last month after a two-hour rooftop standoff will remain behind bars for at least the next month.

Shepparton's Matthew Gruber appeared in Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 16, charged with aggravated burglary, burglary, theft and obtaining property by deception.

The 45-year-old was remanded in custody to appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on April 19.

Cobram Detective Senior Constable Leah Booth said the offences related to incidents across Moira Shire, Shepparton, Melbourne and Echuca from February 8 to 21.

Gruber has been in custody since February 22; the day after his arrest at a block of Echuca apartments on High St.

Naked and trapped on the roof for more than two hours after his leg went through one of the roof tiles, Gruber was eventually escorted down by police on a cherry picker.

He spent the night in hospital with leg and arm injuries before he was charged and taken into custody.
