Detective Sergeant Barry Gray of Echuca criminal investigation unit said a man and his adult sons got into their car at the Echuca Coles carpark when they were approached by an unknown man about 9pm on February 28.
“The offender has walked past the vehicle and there was a verbal altercation,” he said.
“The victim has driven off and parked his car in the driveway between the Caledonian Hotel and the locksmiths.
“The offender has come up to the car again and there was a verbal confrontation. The offender has punched the victim to the face.”
The man suffered superficial cuts to his face. Ambulance Victoria attended but no hospitalisation was needed.
DS Gray said it did not appear the men knew each other.
“We're appealing to the public for information so if anyone saw anything untoward in that area on that date we would urge them to come forward,” he said.
Anyone with information can contact First Constable Rechelle McCartney at Echuca police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
